    1. Hidden Sea is the story of how far you would go in order to help a loved one. This story is told from three different views by Charlie, Raul, and Augie Sweetwater. Charlie is the oldest and thinks that Mexico is his second home until his nephew, Augie, goes missing south of the border during a business trip. Raul is Charlie's nephew and Augie's father, and even though he was born in Mexico, he just doesn't feel the love for the country like his uncle does.As you start to get into this story and [...]

    2. Hidden Sea takes you on a heartbreaking journey through the muck and mire of kidnapping and shanghaiing unsuspecting people into hard and dangerous labor aboard fishing boats with no pay and no hope for escape. When Augie, Raul’s son and Charlie’s grandnephew, is shanghaied and consigned to such a fate, it’s a race against the clock to discover what exactly happened to this young man and why and by whom. These questions are answered as the story brilliantly unfolds, but don’t get too comf [...]

    3. Charlie and Johnny Sweetwater are back! Hidden Sea picks up right where the last book by Miles Arceneaux, North Beach, left off. . . well, not exactly. It’s fifty years later, and main character Charlie is living in dead brother Johnny’s house, and getting philosophical about life. Seems tame enough, except Charlie’s great nephew, nineteen-year-old Augie, is missing and last seen in Mexico.Because “nineteen was sort of an itchy age, especially in a family whose motto was, ‘Hold My Beer [...]

    4. In this fifth novel by Miles Arceneaux, we find ourselves once again with the Sweetwater clan of the Texas Gulf Coast, a colorful bunch whose adventures we have followed through various decades in the 20th century in the previous books. Hidden Sea is set in 2010 and features three central Sweetwaters: Charlie, now in his late sixties and default paterfamilias; Raul, Charlie's nephew who heads the family business; and Raul's son Augie, who has traveled to Mexico on business. The book starts when [...]

    6. Original Post with Giveaway at: tangledintext/single-Hidden Sea was extremely well thought out and realistic. I have read in other reviews on this tour that I'm not the only one that was a little bit intimidated by the subject matter thinking it felt too real.I will admit to missing a few of the hints at the beginning because when that reveal happened at the end I was awestruck. I was pleasantly surprised, yet confused enough that I had to go back and read the first part again. I shouldn't have [...]

    7. “North Beach” is the first Miles Arceneaux book that I got my paws on, and I was thoroughly impressed with the trio’s storytelling. It took me a little longer to ease into this book, but once I was in, I was hooked. Although very far away from anything I’ve experienced in my life, the story is very real and the characters are authentic.Dialogue is often painful to read in books, especially when another language is involved. But Arceneaux flits between English and Spanish effortlessly. An [...]

    8. HIDDEN SEA is suspense with a heart. Well-written and plotted, this book sheds light on a real-world problem while taking the reader on a journey through Mexico. Certain scenes are downright chilling, and you can't help but be pulled into the characters' worlds. As with all good suspense, there are a few surprises in store. And as with all good books with a message, the story is one that will haunt the reader well after reaching the end.Disclosure: I won a free copy of this book in a giveaway.

    9. I love Miles Arceneaux's gulf coast noir novels and his latest does not disappoint! Connivers, pirates and cartels mix in a hair raising tale of kidnapping and slavery.

    10. Proffering a literate jolt to the senses, miles Arceneaux’s Hidden Sea gives readers food for thought with its rich and captivating narrative of human trafficking in the Gulf of Mexico. Albeit this is a work of fiction, the story is based on the reality of sea-faring enslavement, which occurs within the South Sea of China. Readers will find this entertaining story stocked with a bevy of colorful characters artfully immersed in a briny mix of adventure, humor, political corruption and pirates, [...]
